Day Trip to Assateague Island

This past weekend we had decided to take a day trip to Assateague Island, MD.

It was my Mom’s 60th birthday and my husband and I wanted to treat her to a nice roadtrip. Joining her in the backseat was all my camera equipment, of course. What had started as a rainy Saturday morning leaving Ocean County, led to clearing skies with afternoon sun down in Maryland.

We began our morning with a wet ride on the Cape May-Lewes Ferry. Once arriving in Lewes, DE, we drove to Rehoboth Beach for some sidewalk shopping and breakfast. We had stopped for some fuel at a small creperie called Cafe Papillon. I definitely recommend the strawberry and Nutella crepes — absolutely delicious.

On our way south to Assateague, we made a pit stop in Ocean City, MD for some light apps (and drinks) at Seacrets Bar & Grill. When walking into Seacrets, a restaurant on the water, you are surrounded by palm trees and hibiscus flowers — completely forgetting you are in mid-October and in somewhere in the Northeast.

We eventually reached our destination at Assateague Island, National Seashore Park. Known for its wild ponies and wildlife, their habitat provides miles of beautiful beaches, which is a perfect backdrop for an impromptu birthday photo shoot.

Happy Birthday Mom!
